Colts Rd 4 Report

9 Apr 2014 by Tony Craswell

Round 4 of the 2014 colts pennant season was held at Peninsula golf club, with the colts side taking on finals contenders Sandhurst. The young Latrobe side was facing a challenge in the very strong Sandhurst side, who had gone through the season thus far undefeated.

Sandhurst’s day got off to a rocky start, with the team manager handing in their team sheet late. By the letter of the law, this handed Latrobe’s number 5 player, Jordan Tier, the first hole, with the play commencing from the second hole. Ultimately, it did not affect the result, with Jordan’s opponent recording 14 putts through the next 11 holes to take the match 7&6. The two glimmers of hope in the Latrobe side came from Niko Serdenes, who led his match from the outset to record a 2&1 win, and Keegan Michael, who fought hard all day to get the match to the 17th hole, eventually going down 3&1.

The boys have had a tough start to the season, but continue to show determination and drive to win. Next week, the boys face the bottom side, Kew. Unfortunately, the luck of the draw means that we play them on their home course. With a large home crowd expected for Kew, a strong turnout of Latrobe supporters would be much appreciated, to ensure the team doesn’t find themselves outnumbered.
