Colts Report Rd 5

16 Apr 2014 by Tony Craswell

If ever a pennant team could consider that they have broken too many mirrors, walked under too many ladders and seen too many black cats it could be the 2014 Latrobe Colts team. Having narrowly missed out on wins on several occasions, the team found themselves 7th on the ladder, with the next weeks’ match against bottom of the ladder Kew. With the team searching desperately for a win, this seemed like their best opportunity, but once again the teams’ cruel luck shone upon them, with the bottom of the ladder showdown drawn on Kew’s home turf.

The team went into the contest with high spirits and with Nick Kalifatidis’ form being too good to ignore, he got the call up to play number 5. His understandable nervousness showed on the first few holes, but with the help of Jordan Tier on the bag, he managed to settle into his game and swing the momentum back his way. Unfortunately, a couple of clutch wedge shots from his opponent but the game out of reach with Nick going down 3&2 in his first game. Niko Serdenes took control of his match from the outset, and recorded a 5&4 win. Cooper Bricks also took a good fight right down to the wire, with a halved match being a fitting result. The Kew team’s local knowledge proved too strong in the end, taking the other two matches and resulting in a 3.5 to 1.5 loss for the Latrobe team.

With Sunday’s loss putting the team in last place on the ladder, the team are looking to put in strong performances for the last two rounds to avoid relegation to division 4. After the Easter break, the team will play for their pride at the hallowed fairways of Royal Melbourne, on 27th of April.
